Imaging, Memorial Libraries, and Archival Holdings
Archival photography has been revolutionized through the advent of the high resolution digital camera. Film, darkrooms, and chemical baths have given way to digital memory cards, computer screens, and photo software programs. What used to take hours, can now be done in minutes. The finished products of the past could only be shared by repeated printing of the image while today, one image can be shared with a multitude of people through computer technology and the internet.
But it still takes the eye of the photographer to bring out the best of the image, or to bring you, the viewer, into the picture. Where most images are simply pictures, others are portals into the landscape being viewed. The human touch of capturing the emotional ambience of a scene and recreating the very feelings the photographer experienced is the art of photography.
